As a long-time traveler it’s interesting for me to come up with new websites and new ways to do things. Here’s one of my recent discoveries:
If the full truth be told, I can’t collect the finders fee for this place, my travel companion on my upcoming trip to Romania can. And a few other disclaimers: this is my first time using this service, so I don’t know how good it is, and no, this isn’t a plug for a friend who works there. I don’t know a soul at Tours by Locals other than a guide we’ve been setting up our trip with. But the gist is this: go to the website, type in where you’re going, and see suggestions for local guides and things to do at your vacation location. We set up four days of private touring, going where we want to go and doing what we want to do for a very reasonable price.
The payment was made easily, and a confirmation was sent immediately. When I called the U.S. phone number on the site I talked to someone who was very polite and helpful. This is the extent of my experience with the company, but I’d say it’s a pretty good start. Where do you find polite, helpful people these days? It’s getting pretty hard.

I’ll give a full report when we get back from Romania. We leave April 12th. Exciting!!
